Trails for All

CYCLISTS OF GITCHEE GUMMEE SHORES
DULUTH, MN

COGGS (Cyclists of Gitchee Gumee Shores) is the entity responsible for maintaining the elaborate mountain bike trail system in Duluth, MN. The organization is run by a small group of inspired individuals fueled by a passion for biking. Remarkably, the trail system in Duluth is one of only four cities in the US with a certified Gold Standard IMBA trail system.

But COGGS doesn’t see that rating as something to hang their helmet on, but instead, build on, literally. The 2022 mission of the organization is to create new trails for both expert and beginner riders, improve accessibility to trails, create new ride center hubs complete with changing stations and facilities, while also maintaining and improving existing trails. Simply put, Trails for All.

As this idea grew it was clear funding would need to be acquired to make it a reality. As the folks at COGGS built out this initiative, the idea for a gala and fundraiser was born, aptly titled, Trails for All. They reached out to help bring this idea to life in a visual sense and I was happy to be a small part of making it a reality.

What was executed displays a vast range of trails and riders of all skill levels. Fatbike riders, kiddos on push bikes, dirt jumpers, gnarly downhill riders and everything in between are displayed in the illustrations. Additionally, the difficulty levels for trails, black diamond, green circle, blue square are repurposed within the counters of the wordmarks. The result was a rich illustrated campaign that immediately garnered interest and ownership from riders of all walks of life.
